Director of Pickleball

Ian McPherson

With over 40 years in tennis, Ian’s transition to pickleball was a natural and exciting evolution. He has spent the past eight years deeply involved in the pickleball community—competing at the Senior Pro level and serving as a program director, instructor, tournament organizer, and manager.

Now based in Asheville, NC, Ian is excited to join the OPRC team, eager to inspire and coach players of all levels. His teaching emphasizes ball control through footwork, paddle positioning, and anticipation to improve both strategic and technical skills.

Ian holds a degree in Anthropology from UC Santa Barbara and spent over 20 years in IT as a Project Manager and Systems Process Engineer. He later opened a bed and breakfast in Spain and earned a Master’s in Sports Management, deepening his commitment to sports.

Originally from the Midwest, Ian grew up playing tennis, baseball, and volleyball. Outside of pickleball, he enjoys cycling, skiing, hiking, HIIT, exploring, reading, music, and travel—embracing an active, well-rounded lifestyle.
